Emma Veulemans

Tienen, 1999.

Emma obtained her Master’s degree in Visual Arts at KASK in Ghent. She paints and draws using her own visual vocabulary. Her graphic background, with a clear focus on illustration, remains an important starting point in her work. Lines and structures play a central role in her sketches and paintings. Large, often unnatural areas of color contrast with hard contours that do find their origin in nature. Her seemingly cheerful works arise from a positive form of naivety, which translates into color and form. When viewed up close, the light reveals the underlying layers needed to build the whole. This is a conscious choice — she does not want to hide everything. She continues to constantly challenge and develop herself as an artist. She is always looking for new ways to give shape to her creative vision.
